About us

The Norwich branch of the RSCDS was formed in 1956 as a result of exiled Scots and local people in the Norwich area wishing to further their experience and learning of what had been, up to then, the occasional Scottish Country dance evening, mainly to celebrate St.Andrews' nights etc.

Over the years locations for classes and dances, in and around Norwich, have been many and varied.  In 2006 we celebrated our Golden Jubliee, the main event of the year being our Jubilee Ball held at the Norwich Assembly House in May.

Currently, we have about 60 members and new members are always welcome.  Our classes are held on a weekly basis from September through to the end of June at Hellesdon Hospital, Drayton High Road, Norwich.  These are divided into Autumn and Spring terms of 15 weeks each, and Summer classes for 3 weeks.

The branch has eight experienced RSCDS-qualified instructors to cater for a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experienced dancers.  In addition, we have a demonstration team available for displays and events in the region.

We hold several social dances throughout the dancing year as well as a half day workshop, most of which we hold at Wymondham High School, Folly Road, Wymondham, near Norwich.
